Surfing the rapid

One more thing today...

Here is a video (it's not that exciting, but it was definitely an interesting experience) of our river guide taking us to 'surf' a rapid. Note my Bart Simpson laugh.

Tuolumne River Rafting Part 1.

Hello Fish Heads...

I have so much to tell; aquatic macroinvertebrates, herps, FISH, geomorphology, hydrology, dam regulation, the River Continuum Concept, tributary input, the list goes on. On top of that, I just got a new job working for the man, where I get to trout fish all over the state for 5 months. And get paid! This weekend I'm buying a new fly rod for my Rogue River summer steelhead vacation in July. Or, rather, I'm going to look at fly rods. Nerdy science stuff soon to come.

Pictured below: rapids, the North Fork, pteronarcys (salmonfly) and its excuvia, and sierra newt.

So many cool things to see in so little time. Only 1 fish, however, was caught during this time-- a 15" brown trout from the mainstem river. We did see some trout and suckers, though. Next time, we will bring angling and sampling equipment. Can't wait!

Pre-River Trip

Tomorrow I'm departing with my professors, TAs, classmates (some of which are my friends already), and Outdoor Adventure guides to Groveland, CA. Yeah, you guys all know why, seeing as how I always bring it up.... river rafting. Bugs, vegetation, amphibians, that type of shit. Well, seeing as how I'm not a good writer, and this blog is more for my sweet fish pictures, I will stop my little rant, after I say one thing.

What a good life I live!

Shqueeze

When them cotton balls get rotten, you cain't pick very much cotton. Ah, why do I have Creedence stuck in my head? Well, anyway, I just got my per diem from working in the summer, and that, coupled with a nice tax return, is going to fund my new cycling shoes and maybe gardening supplies or fishing equipment. Oh, and of course, my first expenditure will be gettin' my hurrr done. What can I say, I clean up well.

Largemouth BASS! Ahhhhh (and a warmouth sunfish). Heeheeeeeeee.
